WOMEN, PEACE, ARMED CONFLICT AND DISARMAMENT
UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Revisited and Assessed
Adopted October 2000, SC Res. 1325 recognizes for the first time the important role women play in peace-building and the prevention, resolution, and management of conflicts.
In the wake of this ground-breaking resolution, the UN Division for the Advancement of Women (UN/DAW) and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) are undertaking studies that look at many of the factors
surrounding the impact of armed conflict on women and girls.
Progress of the World's Women 2002, UNIFEM's flagship biennial report, will focus on the issue of women, peace and security. In addition to developing indicators to measure progress for women affected by conflict, the publication will demonstrate that it is "impossible to talk about effective humanitarian responses or inclusive peace processes without taking gender into account." The report is scheduled for release in September 2002.
